Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way
On 2003's Take Them On, On Your Own BRMC sang the words that many neo-hippies utter when longing for contemporary status with an idealized time they were never part of; the oft-repeated "I don't feel at home in this generation". As if the values of current times are so out of sync with "back then" that the present is to be tossed aside and discarded for not fitting with said subject's perception of the culture and everyday happenings of a time learned mostly through movies, books, and your stoner uncle's hazy stories from Dead tour in '72.
This is not a digressional jab at like minded people, but more of a long winded way to say that the classic Americana sounds prevalent in 2005's Howl (2005) where hinted in a previous song.
The sliding guitar and barn storming beat stomps challenge each other, fighting for prominence but democratically sharing the attention of your ears. Tambourine accents on the downbeat add ambience and become aggressive during a bridge of harmonica and guitar dueling. Vocals return as the excellent guitar work noodles and settles impatiently in the background. Ending in a coda of multi tracked vocals, because there ain’t no easy way out otherwise.
