Retrohump Day - "Dancin In the Streets"

I originally intended today's Retrohump theme to focus on songs covered by other artists. Specifically those that are covered so frequently that a revisit to the source is in order. The goal was to toss a double bonus of the original artist performing on video complimented by MP3s of covered versions. For example a video of The Who performing Baba O'Riley on [Insert Top of the Tops clone here] would pair with an MP3 of Pearl Jam covering it live.

Midway through my weekly YouTube mining session I stumbled onto this frightening video and veered completely off track from the aforementioned plan. Rescued from the 1980s, or from the annals of a decade for poor decisions, I present you archival footage to be filed under "so bad its good."

David Bowie & Mick Jagger - Dancin' In the Street

Oh my.

Should I begin with the pre-MC Hammer MC Hammer pants, or should the Swankster wit shine it’s light on clowning the Disneyfied rambunctiousness of Bowie & Jagger dancing? Their chemistry oozes so much homoerotic tension that at one point they come dangerously close to making out on camera. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course. Um, what else...I guess that was a pretty sweet slow motion jump by the cat-like David Bowie.

I thought of a different couple who I’ve admired and studied over the years, two fine gentlemen who share a lot of surprisingly common interests with David & Mick. By common interests I refer to awkward dance moves and frolicking in the streets. My favorite perfect strangers, Larry Appleton and Balky Bartokomous. Cousin Larry, where have you gone?
