Long Blondes Live, "Swallow Tattoo" mp3

Last official word from the Long Blondes was that a new Rough Trade single, the previously heard by most "Once and Never Again", would be released in the British isles on October the 23rd. Presumably it will be lovingly presented with Kate Jackson's sophisticated artwork and some choice b-side material to flesh out a podcast yet to come. In the meantime, waiting for all the comfortable amenities, we do as we've always done, forraging for tidbits of material in the cold internet wilderness. Today we've found a truffle, friends.
the Long Blondes - "Swallow Tattoo" (live)
A pretty clean but decidedly lo-fi recording, suggesting that it may be part of one of many BBC sessions the kids have been roped into. It has all the trademark touches that we've come to expect. An introverted, brainy narrator wishes to forgo a night on the town for "...a good film noir and a bottle of gin." Poor Kate once again tries to win the affections of a man who may love another (as improbable as these situations continue to seem) and questions the symbolism of his sailor's ink. Simple, (post) punky chords drive the story, taking occasional detours into empty space whispering. A nice taste for now, although I'll be keen to hear it under the sheen of Steve Mackey's production. As it stands, some of the changes in dynamic are pounded over in the live rendition, not given the emphasis and subtle atmospherics that they'll eventually probably have.
the Long Blondes - "Autonomy Boy" via Punkcast.com, although not on their main site
Also, it looks as if the raw material from the Punk Cast library is beginning to filter out to YouTube in its entirety. I finger the young intern looking lad following our man Joly around, as prime suspect. The "Autonomy Boy" that NYC was robbed of in the LB's '06 Knitting Factory appearance, is captured here from the close quarters of the Cake Shop in the innocent days of 2005.
Sleep soundly with the knowledge that any further Blondes info will be presented as soon as it becomes available.
