the Knife, Live @ Webster Hall, NYC, 11-01-06. Haiku Review!

photos by Devon Banks, in difficult conditions
Every blog with a toe in NYC is likely to post a review of last night's Webster Hall show by the Knife. The Music Slut and the Music Snobbery beat us there already. Since it's all gonna get real tedious, real quick, and no amount of in-depth description is going to really get to the heart of the show's ineffable, surreal nature, ours is entirely in haiku. Really.
Queue cradling the block
yes, sideways haircut boychick
will call tickets too
Inside finally
position jostling in dark
Bud six bucks, that sucks
Light glows for show start
which oranged face elf is girl?
oh, the singing one

Screen masks the stage front
flash pics thwarted, but don't slow
camera orgy
Duel screens play two films
stimulation overwhelming
wish for weed i smell
"We come from the north!"
the only "...Mother's Health" words
guy to my left knows

Does floating freak head
look a bit like James Murphy
or am I crazy?

DFA man-face
morphs into death mask, with real eyes
bad for acid heads

The beat familiar
synthesizer rearranged
"Heartbeats" kills kids still
Video not working
yet nice to be at event
the 'net can't capture
"...Off to On" shimmers
rainy day screen show makes one
forget critic role

Post exit, cheers swell up
shy Swedes might leave us wanting
no house lights just yet
Letters on screens, yes!
L-A-P? Pride for Lapland?
Oh, "Like a Pen". Right
Show ends for frog masks
no more glimpse into future
dreamt by David Lynch
Hipsters crowd exits
feel old and ashamed, but glad
I'll be home for Lost
