Okay, so I thought long and hard about what to give you donkeys for the holidays. But the thing is, you're really fucking hard to buy for. Truly. Look at yourselves. You're choosey. You're discerning. And if mp3s were expensive toys, you'd be the spoiled children of software moguls. For weeks now, you've been playing with the stuff that hasn't even been released yet: the new CYHSY, the new Arcade Fire. I mean, really... What does one give to the kids who have everything?
I wasn't sure. At first thought, I went shopping for Swedes. (I know you love your Nils, your Henrics, your Jens, your Bjorns.) But then, would Florian be too effeminate? Would you think thehelpmeplease was too scrappy and lo-fi?
Finally, J. Klingman's last quarter podcast assured me you're all heartfelt Jeffrey Lewis fiends. So, in the end, I decided to give you photos from J.L. Band's day-after-Christmas gig at Mercury. It was a night of trademark genius, complete with "Creeping Brain's" hand-painted storybook; an improvisatory cover of Archers of Loaf's "Assassination on Christmas Eve;" and, in keeping with the holiday spirit, free gifts (yo-yos) for a crowd of home-for-the-holidays New Yorkers.
