Nasty Nas, all the way. Sorry Elastica, if i want to listen to Wire, that's what i'll do.

It Ain't Hard to Tell how soundly Nas wins this matchup. Give the Elastica album a relisten; doesn't hold up that well. BBC Sessions, well, that's a different story.

I was once told that Elastica is the British/female equivilant of Weezer's blue album. I suppose that's a debate for another day.

Illmatic is all at once ubiquitous and unique - my vote goes to NaS.

Illmatic is ill!

Advantage Illmatic.

I actually think Elastica holds up quite well. Alot smarter and sexier than Weezer anyway. When you think about it, this album is actually indicative of alot of the material that everyone went nuts for in this decade, i.e. post punk toughness sexed up and tarted out for the dancefloor. You can't be crazy about the Long Blondes now and disparage Elastica. Plus the best song about Gallagher brother impotence ever.

I'm glad that so many people took queues from Elastica, and that Elastica could be attributed to a musical sub-category. And I love the Long Blondes. But this album is no amazing shakes. And it is certainly nowhere near Illmatic. Nowhere.

Illmatic is Stillmatic. If you love hip-hop this album defined 1990s NYC rap for you and yours.
