Locally grown organic peaches , Cage Free eggs, and a Neon Bible

Saw this at the Whole Foods checkout counter on Monday. Neon Bible instead of US Weekly, People, et al. I'm all for better cultural offerings, but the unlikely sales venue struck me. If you squint really hard you might make out the prohibitively expensive, but delectable fruits and vegetables in the background. Certainly this will be the first and last post mating Arcade Fire and produce.

The Fire at Whole Foods?! Holy Kashi GoLean Crunch.
It makes sense though, I guess... Remember how much Starbucks' profits jumped when it first started selling icky, easy-listening CDs alongside its vanilla-cappu-nonfat-soy-white-chocolate-double espressos?
At any rate, how rad that our favorite supplier of organic yummies is now selling CDs? (And not only those of the "pre-natal yoga" variety).
...Also, thank F they have drastically better taste in the music! Neon Bible? Very "socially responsible," Whole Foods. We thank you from the bottom of our un-cholesterol-clogged hearts.

You should try their cupcakes. Easily the sweetest (literally) find of 2007. Sanjaya's got nothing on these puppies.
I'm really bracing for the nonsensical backlash and sanctimonious drivel from this revelation though. People trying to make money?! An artist looking for sales from non-traditional areas! For shame!

Sanctimonious drivel is such a yawn, isn't it? And short-sighted to boot...
We know, for instance, that most Americans are too damn lazy to go to physical record shops, let alone seek out new music. Therefore, I'm afraid new music has gotta go looking for them. Enter Wholefoods, Starbucks, Target.
It's depressing, maybe, but necessary. And, I for one, don't think we should rest until we can get a McDonald's Handsome Furs happy meal.
