Just Like a Woman?
The first clip of the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic surfaced the other day and yes that is the Elf Queen from Lord of the Rings as Bob Dylan and the guy who spent an episode of Arrested Development covered in blue paint screaming "I just blue myself!" as Allen Ginsberg. The whole scene has a bad dream/ Mad TV kind of feel and having Ginsberg float by on a golf cart reminds me of the Wicked Witch appearing in Dorothy’s window during the tornado. Nevertheless here’s David Cross as Ginsberg and Cate Blanchett as Dylan…
This is kind of anticlimactic meeting of the two bards since my imagination had their first interaction going something like this…
Allen: I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by
madness, starving hysterical naked,
Bob: I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Allen: angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly
connection to the starry dynamo in the machin-
ery of night,
Bob: The pump don't work 'Cause the vandals took the handles
and so on.....
Director Todd Haynes's biopic of Dylan, I’m Not There , is scheduled for a Fall release. Richard Gere, Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Marcus Carl Franklin and Ben Whishaw will also lend their faces to portray Dylan and it has been confirmed that Stephen Malkmus will contribute some Dylan covers for the soundtrack.

Am I the only one who's much more distressed by the Richard Gere casting than the Cate Blanchett?

At least one of them isn't Bob Dylan playing Bob Dylan.

I still think Cousin Larry from Perfect Strangers would have made a fine Dylan.

I read that Malkmus would be covering "Ballad of a Thin Man" with Dylan's band, produced by Sonic Youth's Lee Renaldo for the soundtrack as well. Then I picked up the pieces of my exploded head...

wow... perhaps by being a soundtrack it might be able to escape the trappings of a tribute album
