Video: Late of the Pier - "Bathroom Gurgle"
It's kind of easy to sleep on British bands, as most of the web community for underground acts in the U.S. is so web based. There might be a communal freak out when they hit New York, but its very difficult for them to get the sort of panting raves that a one off at the Bowery would assure from across the pond. Now, there are obviously quite a few very good British blogs, but they still don't have the hype generating power of the reviled NME juggernaut. Say what you will about its tone and pace (me: they often totally suck), but there is no domestic mainstream print magazine that so fervently covers up and coming or artistically challenging bands on a weekly basis, which is a reason it can lead opinion (unlike the rigid reactive Spin and Rolling Stone). I also find it funny that what is basically the prototype for gun jumping hyperbole is so looked down upon by its digital children, but that's another post...
Late of the Pier - "Bathroom Gurgle"
Late of the Pier are one of the more exciting synth bands to arrive in the wake of the Klaxons' success, and certainly the only so called "new rave" band to make any impact in my own scattered consciousness. They sound restless and euphoric on their new, atrociously titled, single "Bathroom Gurgle." Shades of Gary Numan, Devo, and maybe even Prince?
The video is the same old conglomeration of ivory white skin and questionably floppy hair that you'd expect, not even marginally tempered by the mood lighting geometric Sharpie tattoos.

...and as a bonus, the band's so Gary Numan that it hurts (real nice) first single;
