Video: High Places live @ the Mercury Lounge
High Places - "Sandy Feat" + unknown song
(live @ Mercury Lounge, 12.15.07)
So, I've been going on and on about my 4th quarter band crush, High Places, for months now and this is the first piece of decent quality video I've found to validate my verbosity. Taken from the latest installment of Crackers United's continually excellent FRICTION concert series earlier this month. You know, you'd think I'd have video from my own damn show that they played in September but you'd be sadly wrong. I'll work on that. Wheels are in motion for Rob and Mary to be '08 next big things, which would be an unusually just thing for the world to let happen, but fingers remain crossed.

Average decades old college hippie experimental yohimbe foofram. This is not groundbreaking and only has meaning to the "musicians" who are winging it as they go along. The vocals are unitelligible, so any chance of deriving meaning from lyrics are shot. More like the next YAWN thing...

A lot of assumptions to base on a piece of grainy, distorted footage there Cyberjack101.. I like what I've heard from them but I don't think it's 'groundbreaking'.. on the other hand very little new music is ever groundbreaking, and some of the stuff that is groundbreaking isnt especially enjoyable to actually listen to. Going to reserve judgement on them until I hear a full album anyway, should be interesting to see what they come up with.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Professor cyberjack101, are you fucking joking?!?! You sound like the most jaded and washed up person ever! These innocent little lambs are the last band you should attack. They are super creative, but they aren't trying to be some avant garde composer's wet dream. Who do they really sound like? Nobody really. I like that there is a shrouded pop element to them, and I like the layers. It is super unique sounding because it's a really fresh mix of the two.
While you sit behind your computer, all lonely, jaded, and grouching about them not being groundbreaking, these kids are out there traveling around, living life, being happy, and most importantly, SUCCESSFUL. Jelous?
Jeff, you rule for being behind them. They deserve it more than anybody out there right now.

I know, it's like being mad at a sunrise.
But, I am aware that hyperbole breeds contempt, and I've been hitting it pretty hard for a band who only has twelve tracks on my pod. So I'll take a breather. AFTER the 4Q podcast, that is. Because that's just scientific.
