After a Long Day Toiling in the Tetris Fields...
Crystal Castles - "Courtship Dating"
(Live in Moscow, May 30, 2008)
...the denizens of 8-bit Moscow down roughly 17 Red Bulls and go check out a set by Crystal Castles.
Though watching a shaky clip of club-intended, video-game-inspired dance music is a pretty flimsy imitation of the physicality of being in the room, this song has been pinned in my head lately. It's a really good electroclash song, and no I don't consider that an oxymoron (though I think the preferred sensitive nomenclature these days is simply "electro"). Without the high concept 8-bit processors back story, this is like the best song ADULT. never wrote. I'm not sure ADULT. ever got to tour the former Soviet Republic though, so maybe a little high concept is what takes you over the top.
