Axl Rose | Photos by Merry Swankster

Was I naive to think a show in 2011 billed as “Guns ‘n Roses” would NOT be regrettable? Would my taking an opportunity to capture even a small sliver of the MTV-defined glory of my pre-teen years be a foolish decision? Did I inadvertently put myself in one of those positions where adult curiosity polishes gauzy nostalgia clean to the bone? The question I ask myself is why God, why did I suppress that little voice inside my head telling me not to go to this show? Why did I overestimate those heralded performances of a different version of an Axl-led “Guns ‘N Roses” in which I heard people speak highly about? I clearly remember something about a great MSG show. Why the hell did I think such a thing would be relived in sleepy suburban Colorado on a Sunday night?

Getting Fooled Again

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Everyone’s favorite rock music revisionist, John J. Miller of the usually-respectable National Review Online, is at it again with the list makin’ and the tellin’ everybody how the world is. Miller is pertinent to this and other music-interested outlets mainly because hes the talking head who tried to appropriate a bunch of your favorite rock songs and recodify them as “conservative”, all in an easy-to-read list format. You know “Sympathy for the Devil”? It’s totally about preventing gay couples from having hospital visitation rights. (Or something.) (more…)

Completely ridiculous or expectedly ridiculous?

Just got an email from the Youtube overlords regarding the clip from this post.

I looked into the “Content ID Matches section” of Youtube.  I’m still left wondering – does background music played by a club DJ on a video uploaded to Youtube account for copyright infringement?  Said Youtube verbiage after the jump.

Phish covers Katy Perry

Phish – “Harpua > I Kissed a Girl”Live at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, NY 8.16.09

Last night in Saratoga Springs, NY America’s most misunderstood band dug its fun-loving claws into a joke take on America’s most teeth-rotting sugary pop by the (equally?) vilified Katy Perry. Using the much loved rarity “Harpua” as a springboard into silliness, Phish’s drummer Jon Fishman sang a remarkably off-key rendition of the sapphic hit. The real question now is whether the Internet can avoid imploding from the weight of thousands of anonymous comments claiming the end of music as we know it. Death by a million cuts.
